Acid Reflux Medication

Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid are part of a group of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). They are used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) by reducing the amount of acid in a person’s stomach. This prevents the acid from causing discomfort or damage. These medications may also be prescribed to treat heartburn, inflammation of the esophagus and stomach ulcers. All three PPIs are also now available over the counter.

Serious health complications caused by Proton Pump Inhibitors:
Kidney Disease
Kidney Failure

Symptoms of kidney damage include:
Tiredness
Lack of energy
Loss of appetite
Swelling of the feet and ankles
Increased need to urinate

Lawsuit Information

The manufacturers of these PPIs, AstraZeneca and Takeda, failed to warn physicians and patients of the increased risk of chronic kidney disease and kidney failure that is associated with taking this medication. Chronic kidney disease can also be referred to as chronic renal failure. Studies have found that by taking these PPI mediations, risk for chronic kidney disease increases by 50%.
